How Do GRP Roof Light Sheets Work?
GRP roof light sheets are translucent roofing panels designed to maximise natural daylight while maintaining strength, durability, and weather resistance. Their key features and functions include:
Light Transmission
Provide diffuse natural light with up to 80% transmission, spreading illumination evenly and reducing glare or hot spots for a more comfortable indoor environment.
Help reduce dependence on artificial lighting, contributing to lower energy consumption and running costs.
Structural Compatibility
Engineered to interlock seamlessly with Phoenix Steels’ metal roofing sheets for a watertight, visually consistent roof system.
Profile-matched options—such as the 32/1000 GRP, which aligns with the Box Profile 32/1000 sheet featuring a 132mm trough and two 25mm ribs—ensure precise integration.
Offered in single, double, or triple-skin formats to suit various insulation, safety, and performance requirements.
Installation
Lightweight construction (as low as 2.4kg/m² depending on profile) allows for easy handling, faster installation, and reduced labour effort.
Secured using dedicated fixings like Phoenix Steels’ tek fasteners with 8mm hex heads, water-safe washers, and colour-matched caps for a reliable, leak-resistant finish.
Can be cut on-site or supplied pre-cut by Phoenix Steels for accuracy and convenience.
Protection and Maintenance
Finished with a UV-resistant, anti-fade coating to prevent yellowing and maintain long-term clarity and appearance.
Highly chemical-resistant and suitable for cleaning with detergents or steam; any chemical residues should be rinsed thoroughly to preserve the material’s longevity.
The roof lights range from class 1 to class 3 surface spread flame achieving a SAA rating from BS-476:1997 to BS-476-3:2004.
